Tim Tszyu vs. Dennis Hogan in Talks For Showdown

There are ongoing discussions for a potential 2021 clash between junior middleweights Tim Tszyu and Dennis Hogan.

Tszyu, a rising star in Australia, was hoping to get a crack at the WBO junior middleweight champion Patrick Teixeira.

But, those plans went up in smoke when Teixeira was granted a visa to the United States to make a mandatory defense next month against Brian Castano.

Hogan was scheduled to face former WBA, IBF, IBO junior middleweight champion Julian Williams in December – but that fight also fell out when Williams tested positive for COVID-19.

Following Tszyu’s first round demolition of Bowyn Morgan, Hogan called him out for a fight.

“I know I beat Tim and he believes he beats me so let’s prove who is the best super welterweight in Australia, if not then no problem,” Hogan stated. “The winner moves into a world title shot.”

Tszyu’s manager, Glenn Jennings, confirming to Sporting News that there are ongoing discussions taking place and they are playing out in a positive manner. He notes that a deal may get reached in the coming weeks.

“Nothing has been signed yet, but it’s very close to being made official,” Jennings said.

“It’s a fight we were keen on last year, but Dennis had a fight with Julian Williams lined up, so it didn’t happen. We’re obviously not too keen on travelling around the world too much in the current climate, so we’re more than happy to revisit the fight with Hogan and take on all the local fighters.”

Earlier this week, Hogan revealed he was in training camp for his next fight.

“If you mention another fighter’s name be prepared for them to say yes,” Hogan said. “I said yes. Camp starts today.”

Hogan has been out of the ring since December 2019, when he moved up to the middleweight division and was knocked out by Jermall Charlo.
